Thulusdhoo Island

Thulusdhoo Island is located in North Malé Atoll and is a 30-minute speedboat journey north of Velana International Airport (Malé).

The island is best known for the islands very own surf break, Cokes (AKA Randhaa break). However, the island does not limit itself just for surfers, it offers a variety of amazing tours and excursions. There’s something for everyone. From snorkeling, fishing, diving and water-sports. Thulusdhoo Island offers a beautiful bikini beach with direct snorkeling access from the island’s white sandy shores. Guests have the pleasure of enjoying both the sunrise & sunset each day. Thulusdhoo Island and has a number of local cafes serving a selection of Maldivian, Asian & Western cuisines. The island also has ATM facilities where travelers can withdraw local currency, Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR). USD is also widely accepted on the island.

 

 

How to get to Thulusdhoo Island

Thulusdhoo Island is located in North Malé Atoll and is one of the closest local islands to Velana International Airport (Malé). Being situated just 25km from Malé makes it both affordable & accessible for travelers on a budget.

Two transfer options:
  1. Thulusdhoo Island speedboat transfers are $30 per adult one way, with the journey taking approximately 25-minutes.
  2. Local Ferry ‘Tharika 2’.  Departs Malé City & Thulusdhoo Island once daily (except Tuesdays). Cost: US$2 per person one-way. 1.5 hour direct journey. Akiri Surf Retreat can advise of the current timetable.

Surfing at Thulusdhoo Island

Thulusdhoo Island is one of Maldives’ most popular surfing destinations. The island is home to two of the Maldives’ most consistent surf breaks, ‘Cokes’ (a barreling right hand wave best for experienced surfers) and ‘Chickens’ (a long left-hand wave suitable for beginners & advanced surfers. Surfers can expect direct access to ‘Cokes’ surf break from the island and a short 5-minute boat ride to ‘Chickens.’
